This position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data and/or EAR controlled technology. The hiring process for this position will therefore include an export compliance assessment, which will include an assessment of U.S. person status. U.S. persons are defined by 22 CFR 120.62 and 15 CFR 772.1 to include U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and people with asylee or refugee status.

Position Overview

The Quality Control Analyst II will independently conduct testing as an integral team member while assuring instruments are maintained and qualified to prevent downtime. They will be responsible to lead and provide training, guidance and mentorship to scientists, assume lead role for projects and tasks with technical and operational proficiency solving problems with increasing complexity while ensuring completion of tasks. The Quality Control Analyst II will demonstrate proficiency in method development skills and recognized opportunities for method optimization. They will utilize knowledge of historical data and demonstrate the ability to design and collect new data to solve laboratory or production issues. The Quality Control Analyst II will exhibit critical thinking, ability to assess risk, and manages multi-approach strategies to solve challenges.


The Quality Control Analyst II will present experimental results and observations to support technical leads during customer updates and will demonstrate technical writing skills that effectively communicate task specific results in reports and presentations with minimal guidance and feedback. They will author SOPs, protocols, methods, and reports. The Quality Control Analyst II will be adept at maintaining laboratory notebooks in a manner which allows others to understand findings from each experiment, including interpretations, conclusions, and path forward for further experimentation. They complete complex testing and assure instruments are qualified and calibrated to analyze time critical samples.


The Quality Control Analyst II will practice and consistently reinforce the Nalas Safety culture, operating in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean and tidy work area. The Quality Control Analyst II will contribute to overall continuous improvement of safety practices, propose administrative and engineering controls for new chemicals, technology, or instruments in the lab. They will be knowledgeable of waste management relevant to the QC laboratory.


The Quality Control Analyst II embodies the mindset and behavior consistently reinforcing the Nalas Quality culture. They will design and execute work performed under the quality management principles targeting to be right the first time. They will be proficient at following Quality System Operating Procedures (QSOPs), Quality Control Operating Procedures (QCOPs), Test Methods (TMs), Test Protocols (TPs), Test Reports (TRs), Good Document Practices, Controlled Document Program, and Quality Manual. They will ensure our products and services meet or exceed customer needs. The Quality Control Analyst II will demonstrate excellent time management, organizational skills and team work, balancing time productively on all projects.


This is a full-time position. Standard days of work are Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in science plus 3 years working experience in related field; or MS/PhD in related field with 1 year working experience

  • Knowledge of analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific work

  • Experience in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook

  • Self-motivated and results orientated

  • Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork and time management skills are essential

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Contributions

  • Leads and provides training, guidance and mentorship to mid-level and junior scientists

  • Coordinates instrument maintenance and compliance

  • Serves lead role for projects and tasks with technical and operational proficiency solving problems of increasing complexity

  • Ensures completion of projects and team tasks

  • Proficient method development skills and recognizes opportunities for method optimization

  • Utilizes knowledge of historical data and ability to design and collect new data to solve laboratory or production issues

  • Exhibits critical thinking, ability to assess risk, and manages multi-approach strategies.

  • Proficient with understanding of results and how they pertain to production unit operations

  • Works collaboratively to generate tables and figures representing experimental data

  • Proficient with interpretation of different types data produced (e.g. GC, HPLC, IR, NMR)

  • Investigates and corrects any sources of experimental error

  • Understands the technical literature and instrument manual resources


Lab Proficiency

  • Always operates in a safe and efficient manner and follows safety procedures while maintaining a clean and tidy work area

  • Contributes to overall continuous improvement of safety practices

  • Proposes administrative and engineering controls for new chemicals and technology in the lab

  • Knowledgeable about waste management

  • Proficient with instrumentation software platforms for advanced data analysis, validation tools, and diagnostics

  • Seeks vendor training where applicable

  • Improves current lab procedures with minimal guidance and develops optimal testing parameters

  • Completes complex testing and assures instruments are qualified and calibrated to analyze time critical samples


Customer-Facing Contributions

  • Utilize technical writing skills to effectively communicate task specific results externally in report and/or presentation format with minimal guidance and feedback

  • Periodically presents units of work (slides, reports, etc.) to support or as the technical lead


Project Management

  • Demonstrates excellent time management, organizational skills and team work,balancing time productively on all projects

  • Demonstrates good understanding of billing structures, assignments, timelines, and resources

  • Identifies and communicates variances in assignments vs actuals and understands critical path and scope creep


External Contributions

  • Provides impact and direction to the project portfolio, including contributing to technical sections of proposals and statements of work

  • HAZARDOUS DUTY: Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazards of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment.
