This position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data and/or EAR controlled technology. The hiring process for this position will therefore include an export compliance assessment, which will include an assessment of U.S. person status. U.S. persons are defined by 22 CFR 120.62 and 15 CFR 772.1 to include U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and people with asylee or refugee status.
Position Overview
The Process Manager provides leadership and guidance to one, or more, of the chemical operations teams responsible for the manufacturing of Nalas chemical products. The Process Manager must possess the ability to recognize erroneous and/or unexpected results, interpret, and analyze those results, and make a decision based on their own analysis and conclusions. They must lead by example and must adhere to all EHS policies and procedures toward maintaining a safe work environment. The Process Manager will be responsible for the development and leadership of their direct reports through the Nalas Performance Review Process. The Process Manager reports to the Director of Manufacturing Technologies.
This individual supervises the safe operation and control of chemical processes while ensuring the precise documentation of all production batch records. They are responsible for maintaining team compliance with Good Documentation Practices, the Controlled Document Program, and the Quality Manual, while consistently identifying opportunities to increase productivity and improve safety standards. Beyond technical oversight, they play a key role in reinforcing a company culture rooted in mutual respect. Additionally, they supervise and actively participate in equipment setups, repairs, and reconfigurations, ensuring strict adherence to PSM policies, including management of change (MOC) and lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures. Through effective communication and regular updates, they ensure operational transparency and safety across the department.
It is important that the Process Manager is proficient with project planning, demonstrating an excellent understanding of Nalas’s production goals, timelines, and constraints. This is full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (3+ years experience) or MS/PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (2 + years experience) with strong emphasis in the related discipline.
Skilled in data analysis and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific/engineering work.
Highly proficient with calculating and reviewing material balances for Nalas processes and products.
Extensive experience in the implementation and operation of chemical process equipment.
Highly skilled at process equipment troubleshooting with the ability to identify, fix, and adequately document process disruptions and changes.
Proficiency operating and training personnel on control software such as LabVIEW and SCADA platforms.
Proficiency and knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including kinetics, mixing, heat flow and the associated process safety to design and meet production goals.
Proficient in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and literature reviews
Experienced in reviewing the available literature, including Nalas generated reports and batch records, to gain a better understanding of historical and current processes/methods.
Primary Responsibilities
Identifies strategies for process optimization with an eye towards green commercial processes.
Experience in reviewing process safety and process development reports.
Exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving problems of increasing complexity.
Performs chemical engineering analysis including mass and energy balances.
Applies knowledge of unit operations such as reaction kinetics, crystallization, and isolation techniques toward Nalas portfolio of critical chemicals.
Applies solid understanding of variance and sources of experimental error to process data.
Leverages and applies technical literature to solve problems
Prepares detailed schedules and corresponding checklists to ensure project success with respect to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
Knowledge of waste management, toxicity hazards and SafeBridge classifications
Independently author Operating Procedures and Batch Records.
Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to scientists.
